Ernest. I was looking at the 23 and the 30, but picked the 23 because the grip was that little bit bigger and fit my hand perfect. The 30 being a subcompact, my pinky was barely on the grip. So make sure it fits nice If you have a 22 already, and the 23 or 30 are easy enough to carry, you might as well try the 30.
The 30SF, is on the list of approved. Perhaps this "list" has caused the confusion. Basically, a manufacturer has to have each model they want to sell in California "safety tested". The cost of the testing and the listing aren't cheap. The 30sf definately felt better in my hand than did the 30, & had the shop had a 30sf when I bought the 36 I probably would have gone with the SF in favor of the larger ammo capacity. On the other hand the 36 certainly conceals easily enough,particularly in cooler weather attire. Like.

Used a grip extender sleeve on a G22 magazine for my G27 years ago. Preferred to shoot without the sleeve. It seems like Glock does too. They have a decent lineup of pistols chambered in 45 ACP. The Glock 30SF is sort of a bridge between two variants of Glocks. The first iteration was the Glock 30, but there were more than a few complaints about how big the frame was. You could barely reach the trigger, so Glock released the 30SF or 30 Short Frame.
With the SF, aside from the obvious selection of magazines you can use (which applies to both guns as the 30S uses the SF frame), the ability to convert to different calibers is a huge plus. With my 30SF, I've got .45ACP, 10mm, and .40 S&W available with no more than a 10mm conversion barrel and 10mm mags.

The SF is just short frame, which doesn't effect the holstered area.The width difference is not much a G30 is 1.28 inches and a G36 is 1.10 inches. With a G30 having 10+1 verse 6+1 plus with a G30 my spare mag is a 13 round G21 mag. You can only use a G36 mag in a G36. When I first started researching/testing & evaluating the Glock .45s, I was extremely impressed with the Glock 30 and its phenomenal accuracy and handling for its size. At the time, though, I was wearing suit and tie to work and wanted something I could conceal in all scenarios/all attire, etc., so I went with the Glock 36.
